President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya, as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Naija News reports that Buhari, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give his request, expeditiously.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter of request at plenary on Tuesday morning.
Yahaya, if confirmed, will replace Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash in Kaduna.
Prior to his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.
Yahaya was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto state. He is married and blessed with children. He belongs to the Regular Course 37.
