1. Buhari To Visit Ghana For Emergency ECOWAS Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Sunday depart Abuja for Accra, Ghana to attend an emergency Extraordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Naija News reports that the emergency summit is being convened to discuss the recent political developments in Mali.

In a statement released to newsmen on Saturday Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the president is expected back in the country “at the end of the one-day Summit.”

Adesina added that the meeting is at the instance of the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS and President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.

2. 14 Greenfield University Students Regain Freedom

Some 14 of the abducted students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State have been released.

Naija News gathered that they were released on Saturday afternoon at a location along the Kaduna- Abuja highway.

The Chairman of the Parents Forum, Markus Zarmai and few others were expected to receive the students at the drop-off location, Channels Television reports.

The parents of the abducted students said that they paid ransom, in addition to providing eight new motorcycles to the kidnappers before they agreed to release their children.

3. Many Dead As Troops Clash With Boko Haram In Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed many Boko Haram fighters who were trying to attack Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Council Area of Borno State.

Naija News reports that this was made known by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima.

According to the army spokesperson, Boko Haram fighters were attempting to infiltrate the entrance to the city.

The statement read, “barely hours into the tenure of the Chief of Army Staff Gen Faruk Yahaya, Boko Haram Terrorists attempted an audacious attack on troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Rann the Headquarters of Kala Balge LGA of Borno State. The terrorists came in their numbers mounted on gun trucks and attempted to infiltrate the main entrance to the town.

“The highly spirited troops were right on hand to counter the move and inflicted a humiliating defeat on the terrorists who abandoned their evil mission and took to their heels.”

4. Presidency Releases Buhari’s Achievements In Six Years (Full List)

The Presidency has listed some achievements made by the Muhammadu Buhari administration in different sectors to mark its sixth anniversary in power.

In a statement on Friday by the Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina said the Buhari administration is “recording giant strides, enough to make Nigerians proud”.

5. ECOWAS: Jonathan Gets Fresh Appointment

Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan has been appointed chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of the Wise.

Naija News reports that this was made known by ECOWAS in a statement published on its website after a two-day meeting that ended on May 25, 2021, in Ghana.

While Jonathan was appointed chairman, former Executive Secretary of the Mano River Union of Guinea, Madam Hadja Saran Daraba was named vice-chairman of the ECOWAS Council of the Wise – a supportive organ with a mandate to bring peace and stability among member states.

6. Buhari Receives Second Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday received the second dose of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine.

The Presidency in a post on Twitter noted that the president received the vaccine at State House in Abuja.

The tweet read, “President @MBuhari receives the second dose of the AstraZeneca/Oxford #COVID19 Vaccine, at the State House, on May 29, 2021. #AsoVillaToday #YesToCovid19Vaccine.”

Recall that Buhari, in March received the first dose of the vaccine which was administered to him by his personal physician, Dr Suhayb Sanusi.

7. Cultists Attack Kwara Police Headquarters

The Kwara State Police Command has successfully repelled a reprisal attack on its headquarters when some gunmen, suspected to be cultists, invaded the formation.

Naija News reports that the Kwara State Police spokesperson revealed that the attack was carried out on Friday.

According to the command, the attack came after it had put a situation under control earlier around Surulere, Baboko and Oja Tuntun areas of the state capital.

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Thursday noted that the payment of all the outstanding stipends to Batches A and B beneficiaries of the N-Power Programme has been paid.

The Federal Government also disclosed its willingness to employ one million beneficiaries under Batch C of the social investment programme.

9. Gunmen Raze Another Police Station, High Court In Imo

Unknown armed men on Saturday razed Atta Divisional Police Headquarters in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the armed men also razed the Atta Magistrate and High Court and vandalized the community’s health centre.

The incident has caused serious panic in the community, as youths in the affected community nearly lynched a correspondent of Punch.

His gadgets were sized, damaged and money extorted from him.

10. I Can Take Care Of Myself Without Reporting Anyone To My Husband – Remi Tinubu

Lagos Central Senator, Remi Tinubu has declared that she doesn’t have to rush home and report anyone to her husband but she rather fights for herself.

Mrs. Tinubu who is the wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said her husband has a habit of telling her she’s wrong even when she believes she’s right.

Therefore, rather than go report anyone to her husband, the Senator declared that she would rather fight and defend herself.

She made the submission on Friday when she featured on a TVC breakfast show, ‘Your View.’
