Hoodlums have set ablaze another office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Igboeze South council area of Enugu State.

Naija News reports that this is coming less than one week after the headquarters of INEC was set ablaze in Enugu, the state capital.

The latest arson attack which occurred at 11 pm on Sunday night was on the commission’s office located at Ibeagwa town.

It was gathered that the fire was put out by the state fire service after burning one of the rooms in the office.

Confirming the attack to newsmen, Enugu State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudili Ohaa said only one room was affected by the fire.

According to Ohaa, “There was a fire outbreak at INEC Office, Ibagwa in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area late last night.

“We responded promptly, the situation is under control and we have extinguished the fire.”

The latest incident was the third INEC office to be attacked and burnt by hoodlums in less than one month in Enugu State.

Meanwhile, gunmen on Sunday attacked the office of INEC and a police divisional station in Akwa, Anambra.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the gunmen attacked in three Hilux trucks at about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.

An eyewitness stated that the gunmen shot into the air for close to one hour at the station before proceeding to the INEC office.

According to the source, before proceeding to INEC, the gunmen drove to Aroma junction. They shot in the air for about 10 minutes, making residents scamper for safety before they headed down to INEC.
