Unknown gunmen have attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters in Odoro Ikpe, Ini Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State.

Not less than five police officers as well as the wife of an officer were reportedly killed during the fresh attack.

It was also gathered that vehicles and other valuables were also destroyed by the gunmen.

Although as at the time of filing this report, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement on the matter, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon confirmed the incident to Channels Television.

He said: “Yes, there was an attack of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Odoro Ikpe. Six persons, including five officers and a wife of an officer, were killed.”

Similarly, on Sunday, gunmen also attacked and razed Mkpatak police station in Essien Udim Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom state, killing two police officers and 12 cows.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity explained that the officers were killed in Ukana Ikot Ntuen while the cows were killed at Afaha Ikot Ebak in the same LGA

The hoodlums burnt one of the officers inside his car while the other officer on a motorcycle was shot dead.

“Two police officers have been killed in Ukana Ikot Ntuen and. One was burnt inside his vehicle, while the other one was shot by the bandits. As we speak the situation is still tensed. They killed 12 cows in Afaha Ikot Ebak village,” the source said.

When contacted the State Police PRO, Odiko Macdon said though he is yet to get full briefings on the developments, the situation is being monitored and the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of tactical teams to affected places.

He added that additional updates will be provided later.

“Well, I’m yet to get official report but we are following the trend and we have asked for an update and in no distance time there will be an update. As soon as we have the update we will let the world know. The CP has ordered deployment of tactical team to the affected areas,” Macdon said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has confirmed that some persons suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have been arrested in Kano State.

The arrest of the suspected terrorists was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested in the Hotoro axis of Kano State on Saturday, 8th May, 2021.
