Road Accident Kill Six Persons Along Sagamu-Benin Expressway

Road accident has claimed no fewer than six human lives around Ajede Ogbere in Ijebu Ode-Ore on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, Naija News reports.

The incident which happened on Tuesday morning, May 4 was confirmed to reporters a few moments ago by Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun.

Umar explained that the accident involved three vehicles, a Mazda bus marked JJJ 862 XV, a Toyota Sienna with registration number KRD 306 BJ and a Mercedes Benz (Luxurious bus) marked AGL 05 XZ.

He related the incident which occurred at about 12:01 am today to wrongful overtaking, excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the driver of the Luxurious bus. Naija News understands that the accident involved a total number of 39 people, comprising 25 male adults and 14 female adults.

However, six persons (five men and one woman) were confirmed dead in the horrible occurrence.

“The suspected causes of the multiple crashes were wrongful overtaking and excessive speed on the part of the Luxurious bus driver which led to the loss of control,” Mr Umar revealed.

He added: “The luxurious bus hit the incoming Sienna car and the Mazda bus.

“Immediately, the driver ran away because all the occupant in the Sienna vehicle lost their lives while those in the Mazda bus sustained injuries.”

Umar explained that the deceased persons were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode. He added that four people were injured and were taken to the same hospital for medical attention.

Reacting to the incident, the FRSC boss described the crash as an avoidable act and advised motorists to avoid excessive speed, dangerous driving and also obey traffic rules and regulations. Mr Umar commiserated with the families of the victims and enjoined them to contact the FRSC command in Ogbere for details of the crash and reclaim the properties of the victims recovered from the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, a patrol team of Operation Harmony in Kwara State has arrested a young man with freshly severed human head and legs.

Naija News reports that the security operatives nabbed the suspect on Monday while carrying out a stop and search duty along Ajasse-Ipo/Ilorin highway.
