The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has said that Nigeria is on the verge of becoming a failed state.

In a statement on Monday by the new National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Jare Ajayi, the group restated its call for the restructuring of the country to curb insecurity and other challenges facing the country.

The group noted that only restructuring and entrenchment of true federalism would save the country from becoming a failed state.

Ajayi said the group said it would pursue the restructuring agenda with doggedness and steadfastness to rescue the nation from the near precipice.

He added that from its formation 70 years ago, Afenifere has always agitated for true federalism.

Ajayi noted that state security agencies like Amotekun etc. must also be strengthened and be given powers to operate like State Police.

According to Ajayi, the group reviewed the state of the nation at a meeting held on Saturday at the residence of its leader, Pa. Ayo Adebanjo, in Lagos.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen dressed in army uniforms have reportedly kidnapped the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kogi State, Alhaji Wakili Damina.

Naija News reports that this was confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday by the state Secretary of MACBAN, Mr Adamu Abubakar.

While revealing that Damina was abducted on April 30, he added that the abductors, numbering about eight, came in a white bus at about 12 noon to “forcefully” take away the Chairman from his house at Chikara village, Kogi Local Government.

According to Abubakar, he was informed of the incident about an hour later by the younger brother of Damina who claimed he witnessed the incident.

Since then, his lines are not reachable and all efforts to know his whereabouts proved abortive,” he said.

The MACBAN secretary said that he contacted the state Commissioner of police, adding that the state government was also informed through the Special Adviser on security matters to the governor, Jerry Omodara.
