Ex-Nasarawa Governor, Al-Makura Loses Bid To Return To Senate

A former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has revealed his intention to contest for the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made his intention known in a statement issued on Monday signed by his press secretary, Danjuma Joseph, when his campaign coordinators in the 13 LGAs in the state, visited him in his Lafia residence.

Al-Makura said he is waiting for the party to zone the position to North Central before declaring his intention to contest formally.

“God willing, if they zone the office of national chairman of our party to the North Central zone, then we will all go out with our might and officially declare our ambition. If they throw it open, we will come out in full glare to contest, but if they zone it to either North East or North West, then I will not go into the race because I am a loyal member of APC,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has called on Nigerians to repent and seek divine intervention for the country to effectively tackle its security challenges.

He stated this when he hosted top government functionaries, members of the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive to a Ramadan breakfast at the government house, Birnin Kebbi.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Dakingari, Atiku said the call became imperative in view of the importance of repentance to human beings “both here and hereafter”.

Atiku appealed to citizens to strengthen their faith in God through prayers and righteousness, saying only God has the ultimate capacity to put an end to all security challenges.

“I want to emphasise the need for collective and individual supplication towards eliminating problems that engulfed our dear nation,“ he said.

“I also want to affirm the commitment of incumbent administration to uplift the condition of living of both urban and rural dwellers and I pray God Almighty to shower His blessings on us all.”

The Kebbi Governor appreciated the “capability and commitment” of President Muhammadu Buhari to salvage the country from its predicament.
