Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has lamented the deplorable situation of security in Nigeria with the increasing attacks in various states of the federation.

Wike also lambasted the various state Governors whom he accused of not taking needed steps in tackling insecurity in their respective domains but always quick to rush to Abuja whenever issues arise.

The Governor spoke on Tuesday at the Rivers State government house in Port Harcourt during an interactive session with some traditional rulers, political leaders, and other stakeholders in the state.

In his submission, he urged Governors particularly those of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus more on finding solutions than politicizing issues and running to Abuja to show how close they are to the President.

He said the Governors by their actions are not doing anything to solve the problems and are also wasting valuable time the President might have used to address other issues.

In his words, “Nigeria has totally collapsed. Look at today — what happened in Nasarawa and Benue states; how they slaughtered people on the road. See what is happening in Niger state and the APC governor there is crying, saying he has been talking to the federal government but nobody has listened to him. And that Boko Haram has come to take over the state, which is closest to Abuja,” Wike said.

“Look at Kaduna and Imo states; there is insecurity everywhere. The only anger I have with Imo state governor is this: I don’t know how people politicise things.

“Nigeria has a lot of problems and they keep running to the villa everyday to disturb Mr. President, for him to see their faces, pose for photographs and will not allow him to work.

“You know you have crisis at your place; you can’t stay to solve it. But every day, you go to see Mr. President so that the world will know that you’re close to him.”

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Ekiti Central, Opeyemi Bamidele has suggested that President Muhammadu Buhari may not be aware of the security challenges facing Nigeria.

The Senator spoke on Tuesday on the floor of the Senate while contributing to a debate on the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

The motion was sponsored by Mohammed Sani Musa, the Senator representing Niger East in the upper legislative chamber.
