Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist group on Friday night, attacked houses and some other public infrastructures in Gaidam, Yobe State.

The terrorists were reported to have mixed with the local residents after troops prevented an attack on residents of the town just as they were about to break their Ramadan fast.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that the terrorists which invaded the Yobe town around 6 pm came in eight vehicles and carrying weapons.

However, troops of the Nigerian Military prevented the Boko Haram fighters from overrunning Gaidam town in Yobe State.

It was gathered that the troops with assistance from the Nigerian Airforce ( NAF) helicopters, successfully repelled the attack.

A military intelligence source quoted by PR Nigeria said several of the terrorists were killed in the counterattack as the attacking terrorists were forced to flee.

It has however now been revealed that the terrorists didn’t flee the area totally, but deceived the troops and sneaked into some nearby houses and communities.

After the troops withdrew from the area to continue the onslaught on the insurgents in other locations, the terrorists came out of their hiding, looted foodstuffs from the locals, burnt down vehicles and their marketplace as well as the telecommunication mast in the area.

“Immediately after the airstrikes, the terrorists tactically withdrew, but sneaked into the community, after a while. They gathered the residents and began preaching to them. They later looted foodstuff in the town’s market, burnt down vehicles and telecommunications mast to avoid their phones being tracked by security agencies.

“Some of the terrorists hid in residents’ houses disguising themselves while others in gun trucks withdrew and joined other fighters at Tarmuwa and Bololo districts, few kilometres away from Gaidam town,” a source told PR Nigeria.
