European Super League: ‘UEFA Thinks For Themselves’ – Pep Guardiola Reacts

Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, has reacted to the cessation of top European clubs from the UEFA league games to form the European Super League.

Twelve of football’s biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester City where the Spanish coach heads, had on Monday, April 19 defied worldwide backlash to announce the creation of the European Super League.

Despite their leagues and UEFA kicking against the move, the clubs have announced they have formed a new breakaway league, with each side set to immediately receive a share of £3billion.

Naija News reports that the 12 clubs include Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan.

However, answering questions from sports pundit on Tuesday, Guardiola expressed dissatisfaction with the clubs selected, asking why the Dutch professional football club, Ajax was not included in the selection.

When asked why City was included in the ESL competition, Guardiola said he is not the right person to answer the question.

He said: “I would love the president and this committee to go out around the world and say what is the reason why they took this decision.

Speaking about the idea of the ‘European Super League’, Pep said; “The sport is not a sport when the relation between the effort and the success, the effort and the reward don’t exist, it’s not a sport. It’s not a sport if it doesn’t matter if you lose.”
