Akeredolu vs Jegede: PDP Heads To Appeal Court

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the tribunal ruling which dismissed the petition filed by its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede against the election victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

The PDP in a statement on Tuesday signed by its state publicity secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei said the governorship election petition tribunal is not a final bus stop.

It revealed the party’s intention to head to the Appeal Court to challenge the virtual ruling delivered by the Ondo State governorship elections tribunal on Tuesday.

It will be recalled that Naija News earlier reported that the Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Eyitayo Jegede against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While delivering judgement in Akure, the chairman of the three-member panel Justice Umar Abubakar struck out the petition of Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP for want of Jurisdiction.

Reacting to the development, the Ondo State PDP said: “It is important to stress that, in its wisdom, the tribunal admitted that issues raised by the petitioners were sufficient for consideration but constitutional, which the tribunal is not in a position to do justice to.”
While appealing to all party faithful across the state to be steadfast and remain calm in the present circumstance, assured of victory in the long run.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Military has raised its alert level across all formations as an immediate response to the killing of Chad President Idriss Déby by terrorists.

It will be recalled that the national army of Chad revealed that President Deby who was newly re-elected has died of wounds he received while commanding his army in battles against rebels in the north.

68-year-old Deby had earlier won his sixth term in office in the latest provisional results on Monday by 79.3% and looked set for a sixth term of five years as the country’s president.

According to the army spokesperson, Général Azem Bemrandoua Agouna, the military had been pushed back by a column of insurgents who were advancing on the capital, N’Djamena.

Déby was expected to give a victory speech after receiving the provisional results, but opted instead to visit Chadian soldiers on the front lines, said his campaign director Mahamat Zen Bada.

In an immediate reaction to happenings in the neighbouring country of Chad, a security source told HumAngle that the Nigerian military has raised its alert level in preparation for a possible escalation of crisis in the region.
