Troops Take Fresh Action After Terrorists Attack Military Base In Yobe

Troops of the Nigerian Military have imposed restrictions on movement along Damaturu-Damboa-Biu Road following attacks by members of ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorist group on Kumuya military base in Yobe State.

It was gathered that the terrorists attacked when some special forces of the 27 Task Force Brigade, deployed at Buni Gari had gone out on clearing Patrol in the axis.

During the attack, the terrorists were said to have attacked Kumuya community, terrorized harmless villagers before descending on the military base where they destroyed some heavy military equipment.

According to PR Nigeria, the terrorists got assistance from local informants and sympathizers around the community but despite the ambush, the military troops who were on ground at the time of the attack, successfully repelled the attackers during an exchange of gunfire.

A section of the military base at Kumuya was however reportedly razed down during the attack, but the full extent of the damage or number of casualties recorded could not be ascertained at press time.

In another development, the Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops have successfully killed several top Boko Haram/ISWAP commanders during recent operations.

The Director Army Public Relations, Mohammed Yerima who confirmed the development in a statement on Friday noted that the terrorists met their deaths through well-coordinated ground and air bombardments by the troops within the last one week.

The Army spokesman explained that the killing of the Boko Haram commanders and their fighters took place in different operations, in different locations by the troops last week.

He listed some of the commanders killed as Bukar Gana Fitchmeram (aka Abu Aisha), Mohammad Fulloja, Ameer Mallam Bello, Ba’a kaka Tunkushe, Abu Muktar Al -Ansari, Ameer Abba Kaka, Abu Huzaifa, Ameer Modu Kwayem, Abu-Rabi, Muhammed Likita, Ameer Umar, Abu Ubaida and Abu Salim.

Apart from those killed, the statement also confirmed that Goni Mustapha who was the Chief Imam of the ISWAP escaped with bullet wounds.

Yerima also confirmed that the terrorists attempted two separate failed attacks on Gajiram and Damasak.
