An attack by gunmen on residents of Wereng village, Riyom local government area of Plateau State has left no less than six persons dead and many others injured.

It was gathered that the attack occurred around 10.30pm on Thursday night.

The attack was confirmed to newsmen by the Chairman of Riyom LGA, Hon Mafeng Gwalson.

Also, Plateau North Senator, Istifanus Gyang in a statement through his spokesperson, Musa Ashoms condemned the attack.

According to him, “It is sad therefore that people in Plateau North are repeatedly being hunted, ambushed and killed without any decisive action.”

Gyang called on the government and security agencies to prioritize the safety and welfare of the people as enough is enough of needless attacks on peaceful residents by bandits.

“We are calling on security agencies to be up to their expectations, because it was at the public place that the attack was carried out but unfortunately this thing was not averted,” he noted.

Meanwhile, suspected gunmen have killed a pastor identified as Emeka Unaegbu, inside his church in the Jikwoyi area along the Nyanya Road in the Federal Capital Territory Capital, Abuja.

It was gathered that the Unaegbu of the Goodnews City Church was killed by the gunmen on Tuesday evening while having a personal vigil in the church.

Sources in the police noted that the cleric might have been killed by assailants who had attempted to abduct him from the church.

There are claims that the gunmen might be one of the armed gangs who have been kidnapping and killing residents of Abuja.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the body of the pastor was found in the morning on the church premises.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
