The government of Jigawa State has announced a reduction in the daily work time of civil servants in the state throughout the period of Ramadan fasting.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the spokesman, Office of the State Head of the Civil Service Alhaji Isma’il Ibrahim, workers in the state will now resume by 9am and close by 3pm from Mondays to Thursdays during the Ramadan fast.

The statement added that on Fridays, workers would report to work by 9.00 a.m. and close by 1.00 p.m. instead of 3.00 p.m.

He urged workers in the state to use the opportunity of this year’s Ramadan fast to pray for God’s guidance and blessings for the state and Nigeria as a whole.

“The gesture is aimed at providing more opportunities to the civil servants to prepare for their Ramadan break and also to have more time to observe spiritual activities during the Holy month,” he said according to NAN.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs on Monday announced that Ramadan in Nigeria will commence on Tuesday, April 13.

The announcement was made by the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in a broadcast.

He called on Muslims to start fasting, urging them to dedicate themselves to the worship of Allah throughout the fasting period.

He also urged them to seek Allah’s intervention in the security situation of the country and COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has urged the Muslims in Nigeria to use the occasion of this year’s Ramadan fast to seek God’s intervention in solving the various challenges plaguing the nation.

He also urged Muslims to use the Holy Month to do more charitable acts and reach out to those in need particularly those whose livelihood might have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Atiku in a statement on Tuesday from his Twitter account urged Nigerians, in general, to use the season of the Ramadan fast to build a better society.
