Bandits on Monday killed two people during an attack on Wawan Rafi II village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The deceased were identified as Joshua Dauda and his seven-year-old son Philip Dauda. The bandits also burnt seven houses, one car and a motorcycle during the attack.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement released on Monday, noted that security patrols deployed to the community forced the bandits to retreat into the forests.

Aruwan disclosed that military officers recovered eight empty cases of 7.62mm ammunition at the scene of the attack.

“So far, two corpses have been retrieved. The citizenry will be updated on further developments,” he said.

The Chairman Atyap Chiefdom Peace and Security Partnership Committee, John Bala Gora, while reacting to the incident noted that the numbers of persons killed in the attack according to Zangon Kataf Local Government Council exceeded four people.

Gora further stated that the secretary of the local government, Elisha Sako, identified the victims as Dauda Joshua, 54, Philip Dauda, 8, Francis Ayuba, 30 and Florence Denis, 3.

The state Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, in his reaction to the incident prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed in the attack while offering heartfelt condolences to their families.
