Again, Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest In Imo Community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked another police station in Cross River State.

Information gathered by Naija News has it that the attack occurred at Ekori community in Yakurr local government area of the state.

During the attack, the gunmen reportedly beat up some of the policemen they met on duty, injured one of the officers, and escaped with his AK-47 rifle.

An eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity narrated that “the hoodlums invaded the Police Station located at Ekori community of Yakurr with heavy weapons and attacked the officers.”

Adding that “the hoodlums scared away the officers on duty, beat one to stupor and made away with the AK-47 rifle of the policeman.”

The development has reportedly led to the closure of the Ekori Police Station indefinitely while affected officers have been moved to Ugep Divisional Police, at the local government headquarters.

The incident has been confirmed on phone by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Igri Ewa who added that investigations on the matter have commenced while an official statement will soon be issued.

It will be recalled that back in March 2021, the Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force revealed two of its officers were killed on Wednesday, March 3 by yet to be identified gunmen.

The state force spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, who spoke with reporters on the incident recounted that the sad development brings to six the number of personnel killed in the last six days in the state.

Naija News understands that the newly reported killing of the police officers happened in Obubra, in the central part of the South-South State, coming a few days after the murder of four officers in Calabar by unknown assailants.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has said the South-East Governors launched the security outfit, codenamed Ebube Agu, to combat the security challenges in the region.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Sunday, the governor said the headquarters and central command of the security outfit will be located in Enugu State.

According to the governor, Ebube Agu which means the presence of a lion connotes protection, territorial authority, strength, and power

Ikpeazu said operatives of Ebube Agu would oversee and monitor the activities of vigilante groups in the South East.
