Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has described calls for Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to drop his 2023 presidential ambition as absurd.

Naija News recalls that Governor Yahaya Bello was asked to relinquish his desire to run for the position of president come 2023.

The North Central Council of the All Progressive Congress (APC) made the call in Abuja on Thursday, April 8.

But reacting in a post on his Twitter on Sunday, Fani-Kayode noted that Nigeria needs strong & decisive leadership, a generational change & a bridge-builder.

“The idea that Gov. Yahaya Bello should not run for the Presidency & that the NC zone, which has never produced a democratically-elected President, ought to settle for another position is absurd,” Fani-Kayode said.

“Nigeria needs strong & decisive leadership, a generational change & a bridge-builder.”

Speaking at a press conference in the Federal Capital Territory earlier today, Kassim Muhammad, the Coordinator of APC North Central Council, had suggested that Governor Bello should forget his urge to lead the country and instead support the zoning of the party’s National Chairmanship to the region.

Muhammad who spoke at the APC National Secretariat said Bello must allow the North Central part of the country to produce the next president, in the interest of fairness.

He described the governor as a democrat, noting that it would be best that he abandon his ambition in the interest of political justice and equity.

He said: “The North Central Council is equally appealing to the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to have a rethink over his 2023 presidential ambition.

“We strongly believe that conceding the presidential ticket of our party, the APC to the southern part of the country would enhance equity and political justice. We believe that the Kogi State Governor is a true democrat who believes in one Nigeria.

“We are therefore appealing to Yahaya Bello to drop his presidential ambition, and join us in the campaign to ensure that the North Central produces the next APC National Chairman”.
