Scores Killed As Gunmen Invade Kogi Community

Unknown gunmen have killed eight people in a night attack at a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau.

Reacting, Governor Simon Lalong has directed security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of the incident which was said to have occurred on Friday night.

According to Lalong, the killing was a delibrate attempt to destabilize the state and create fear among the people.

While commiserating with the families of those killed and those who sustained injuries, he directed to security agencies to resolve such attacks as excuses of “unknown gunmen” will no longer be tolerated.

Lalong also advised the citizens to assist law enforcement agencies with useful intelligence, leveraging on structures such as the traditional institutions, community police constabulary, vigilante groups, and other associations.

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Umueze Nguru community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Charles Iroegbu, his cabinet chiefs, and palace guards have been released.

Naija News learned that the monarch, his five cabinet chiefs, and two palace guards regained their freedom on Saturday, three days after their abduction.

Recall that Iroeugbu, owner and Chief Executive Officer of All States Mass Transit, alongside seven others were kidnapped after attending a traditional wedding ceremony in the Ehime Mbano LGA of the state on Wednesday.

However, a source in the palace told The PUNCH on Saturday said that the entire community was jubilating over the safe return of the monarch, the cabinet chiefs, and the two palace guards.
