The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Saturday suspended it’s 10 days old nationwide strike.

The National President of the Association, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi told Vanguard that the strike was suspended due to their responsibility to Nigerians and the fact that the Federal government has met some of their demands.

According to him, the strike was suspended after series of long hours of meetings with various stakeholders in the health sector.

“We have suspended the strike to show our patriotism to Nigerians. The government has met some of our demands and they have assured us that all our demands will be met. We are working on a press statement to that effect.

“Tomorrow we will be having a press conference,” he stated.

Naija News reports that the doctors had begun an indefinite strike on April 1, owing to the federal government’s failure to pay their owed allowances and salaries.

The agreement between the FG and doctors broke down after the medical workers expressed lack of confidence in the Memorandum of Action signed with the government representatives.

The NARD had after its Executive Council meeting accused the government of insincerity and dismissed the MOA as a plot by the government to hoodwink the union.
