Some Western Countries Harbouring IPOB Despite Its Terrorist Organization Status - Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday, expressed sadness over the state of security in the country which has affected the unity of Nigeria.

Mohammed in his statement noted that security issues like banditry, kidnapping and others have led to the call for Nigeria breakup.

The Minister disclosed this during a Town Hall meeting in Kaduna tagged: “Setting Benchmarks for Enhanced Security and National Unity in Nigeria”.

He added that unity on the side of Nigerians will help put an end to the security issues affecting the nation.

Mohammed said, “Ominously, the general state of insecurity, as reflected in incidences of farmers/herders clashes, Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, ethnoreligious clashes and intolerance, cultism, drug addiction and kidnapping for ransom, are now triggering a rising call for secession as well as the politicization of ethnic and religious differences.”

“Bluntly put, the insecurity and its manifestations pose a dangerous threat to the unity of the country and its continued existence as one indivisible nation.”

“How did we get here and what can we do to change the narrative? We believe that finding a way out of the situation in which we have found ourselves requires teamwork, reflecting all diversities and leveraging on all our collective creativity to pursue with diligence the project of rescuing Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has called for the clampdown on Boko Haram insurgents and bandits terrorising the North and the country in general.

Speaking at the town hall meeting on national security hosted by the Ministry of Information and Culture in Kaduna on Thursday, the governor asked security agencies to wipe the criminals.
