Zamfara: I Lost Election Because I Took Buhari Govt To Court On Naira Redesign - Matawalle

A former Commissioner for Social Welfare in Zamfara, Sanusi Maradun, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Maradun announced his defection in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, on Saturday.

According to the former commissioner, he dumped the PDP because of APC’s efforts towards developing the state.

He said: “I am in politics because of the development of my people. l decided to join APC base on the party’s successes in retaining grassroots politics in the state.

“Anybody who wants to develop in politics must embrace APC under the leadership of the former governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari.

“I served in Yari’s cabinet as a commissioner and I know the kind efforts he made during his tenure to promote the state in both human and infrastructure development.

“The APC is the only vibrant political party in the state considering the fact that the party has more grassroots support in the state.”

Maradun’s defection is coming at a time when Governor Bello Matawalleis rumoured to be perfecting plans to join the APC.

There have been talks about the planned defection of Matawalle following the judgment of the Supreme Court on the crisis that trailed the primaries of APC in Zamfara.

A former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, had stated in 2020 that plans are on for Matawalle to join the ruling party.

A source had stated that one of the factors that delayed the defection of the governor was the crisis rocking the APC in the North-west state.

Factions loyal to former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Senator Kabir Garba Marafa were reconciled in February this year.

Another source close to the chairman of the national caretaker committee of the APC, Mai Mala Buni, confirmed the defection moves.

“The talks on Matawalle’s defection have gone far but wait for him to formally announce it,” the source said.
