President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Afenifere spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin on Saturday.

The President in a condolence message signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, described the late Odumakin as a dutiful person.

Until his death on Saturday, Odumakin was a known critic of Buhari who previously served as his spokesman when he contested the 2011 presidential election on the platform of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

The President expressed sorrow over the demise of Odumakin and prayed God to grant the family and all those he left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement titled, ‘President Buhari mourns Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin’, read, “President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with the family, friends and acquaintances of Yinka Odumakin, spokesman of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.

“Odumakin was also spokesman to the then Gen Buhari in 2011, when he ran for President on the platform of Congress for Progressive Change, now defunct.

“The President recalls Odumakin as dutiful, and a person of conviction, expressing sorrow at his demise, when he had a lot more to contribute to society and the nation at large.

“President Buhari prays God to grant repose to the soul of the departed activist, and comfort all those who mourn him.”

Naija News recalls the political activist died on Saturday at age 56.

He died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

The political activist reportedly died of complications from COVID-19.

He was said to have been battling underlying conditions such as diabetes before the COVID-19 attack.

His wife, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin, was also quoted to have confirmed the news of the death.
