The Kano State Executive Council under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has approved the expenditure of nearly N9 billion, ₦8,980,303,460.63) for the construction of the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge on Maiduguri Road in the heart of Kano.

The council approved the spending shortly after concluding its weekly session at the Africa House conference hall at the state government building.

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba Muhammad Garba said the move was part of the Abdullahi Ganduje administration’s plan to build roads to make Kano a “thriving city” and boost trade.

According to him: “The project is in line with government’s policy of transforming Kano into a megacity as well as boosting commercial activities.

“Kano has been recording a significant increase in the influx of commercial traffic and therefore needs to redesign and improve existing road networks,’’

Last week, the former governor and opposition leader in the state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, criticized the multiple bridge projects in the state, saying “the people of Kano need education” and not the bridge.

The commissioner also said the council had approved the expenditure of N44,300,000 for the renovation of the Audu Bako Agricultural College in the Dambatta Local Government Area.
