The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has urged the Federal Government to recruit at least 50 million youths into the Nigerian Army to help tackle insecurity.

Naija News reports that Tinubu stated this while speaking at a colloquium to celebrate his 69th birthday in Kano State.

According to the forme rLagos governor, recruiting youths into the army will boost Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

“We are under-policed and we are competing with armed robbers and bandits to recruit from the youths who are unemployed. Recruit 50 million youths into the army and take away from their recruitment source, what they will eat cassava, corn, will grow here,” Tinubu said.

“Don’t talk about illiteracy, anybody who can hold a gun, who can handle a gun, who can cock and shoot is technically competent to repair a tractor in the farm.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said no Nigerian leader can be compared to Bola Tinubu.

Osinbajo, who was a Special Guest of Honour at the colloquium, said Tinubu has become an institution in Nigeria due to his peculiar leadership and governance.

He noted that Tinubu has raised notable leaders in the country in the last few decades, adding that the former Lagos state governor has been able to lead a vast array of persons with diverse views.
