Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of Olawoyo Bukola, a police officer that got shot during the chaos that erupted in the state last weekend.

Naija News had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday suspended the Bye-Election into the Ekiti East State Constituency seat after violence broke out during the polls.

Three persons were reportedly killed during the violence which erupted while not less than three other persons including a police operative, an NYSC Corps member, and an INEC official sustained gunshot wounds.

A statement delivered to newsmen on the death of the police officer a few hours ago by Sunday Abutu, the state’s police spokesperson reads: “The Ekiti State Police Command, with the deepest sorrow, announces the death of W/SGT OLAWOYE BUKOLA who was shot by a group of thugs that invaded ward 7, Unit 7 during the recent Ekiti East House of Assembly Bye-Election.

“She died at about 1800hrs today (Monday) being 22/03/2021 at FMC, Ido-Ekiti, after fighting for her life for days.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP TUNDE MOBAYO, on behalf of the Command, sympathizes with her family members and pray God grants her soul eternal rest.

“Meanwhile, the Command wishes to inform the general public that the suspects who committed the heinous crime have all been charged to Court,” the statement read.

Naija News understands that the PDP and the APC have exonerated their parties from the violence, Governor Kayode Fayemi maintained that the perpetrators will face the law. Eventually, three people were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, murder and attempted murder.

The police spokesman confirmed that they have been remanded in prison.
