Police Arrest Killer Of Popular PDP Chieftain, Aborode

An 80-year-old chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Igangan, Pa Olawuwo, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command over the killing of Dr. Fatai Aborode.

Naija News reports that Aborode, a late chieftain of the PDP in the state and a businessman was murdered on December 11, 2020, while returning home from his farm.

The death of the politician and the high rate of insecurity in Ibarapaland led to the prominence of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho Adeyemo.

According to The Punch, Olawuwo was arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department Iyaganku in Ibadan for further probe.

The report said the politician and Aborode were from the same constituency and some of his followers who went to where he was detained were not allowed to see him.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the suspect had been arraigned and the court remanded him in police custody.

Fadeyi said, “Yes, he has been charged to court and remanded in Police custody.

Meanwhile, former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed that the All Progressives Congress accused his administration in 2014 of supporting Boko Haram terrorists to reduce the number of northern voters.

Jonathan noted that the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, accused him and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of being Boko Haram sponsors “to spoil Islam’s name.”

However, years after the emergence of the APC government, insecurity has worsened and El-Rufai and other governors have been affected by security issues.

Jonathan who described El-Rufai’s claims as laughable and extremely ridiculous said his government was determined not to pull anyone down.

The former President stated this in his book, “My Transition Hours”, explaining that his government was consistently attacked and maligned to ensure the propaganda succeeded.

He wrote, “A particular opposition politician, Nasir El-Rufai, who became the Governor of Kaduna State, went to the ridiculous extent of tweeting on August 9, 2014, that the then President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, and I were sponsors of the Boko Haram. He added that Boko Haram members were not Muslims but Christians disguised as Muslims to spoil Islam’s good name.”

“Of course, it was laughable and extremely ridiculous. On the same day, at the Portcullis House in Parliament, London, El-Rufai repeated the same allegations at an event.”
