Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said the Appeal Court judgement which cleared him of certificate forgery is a victory for democracy, equity, fairness, and justice.

Naija News reports that the court sitting in Abuja had earlier dismissed a certificate forgery suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one Williams Edobor against the governor.

According to the ruling by the presiding judge, Justice Stephen Adah, the lower court was right in its findings and conclusions for dismissing the suit.

But in a statement on Thursday night, governor Obaseki hailed the court judgement and commended the judiciary for standing for the truth.

Obaseki added that the ruling has vindicated him and reiterated the fact that “the suit was, from the onset, a facetious attempt to swindle Edo people through the backdoor as it was without any merit whatsoever.”

He, however, berated the APC and Edobor for accusing him of certificate forgery during the Edo 2020 gubernatorial election.

He said: “The judgement today by the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja is a victory for democracy, equity, fairness and justice. It further reassures confidence in the judiciary as an impartial umpire.

“From the content of the judgement, ab initio, all Edo people knew there was no merit in the case. It was ill-willed. It is comforting that the judiciary has upheld the truth and the verdict of Edo people.”
