Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday, launched another deadly attack on Katarko, a village in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The terrorists reportedly stormed the area as early as 5:30am and burnt down a primary school as well as the community healthcare center.

Katarko community is 18 kilometers south of Damaturu the state capital, Naija News understands.

A resident of the area who resides in Fantami Kura confirmed the development to Channels Television.

“We came out as usual around 5.30 am for prayers, we sighted the gunmen, we immediately alerted our people and run into bush for safety.

“They proceeded straight to the military formation in Katarko shooting sporadically and later set the base on fire,” the source noted.

As at the time of filing the report, attempts to reach the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Sector 2 Operation Lafiya Dole in Damaturu, Lieutenant Kennedy Anyanwu proved abortive.

The attack on the northeast by the insurgents has been on the rise, but the Nigerian troops are fighting hard to curb the insecurity in the country.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly killed a Nigerian Army commander, Major U. I. Urang in Borno state, military sources revealed.
