Details Of PDP Governors Meeting With Reconciliation Committee Emerges

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have promised to join hands with the federal government in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

The governors who spoke under the auspices of the PDP governors’ forum after their meeting on Thursday said the security challenges in Nigeria need to be tackled without consideration for political or ethnic affiliations.

As previously reported by Naija News, the meeting held at the Sokoto State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, and also considered among other things, the efforts made so far made in reconciling aggrieved members as well as ways of mediating in the internal disputes among some party leaders.

A communique issued at the end of the meeting said the governors were ready to collaborate with the federal government in tackling the nation’s security challenges.

“The meeting further resolved to continue to collaborate with the Federal Government to fight the scourge of insecurity bedevilling the country and urged the Government to take necessary steps to engage all major stakeholders,” the communique noted.

It added that: “States that bear the major brunt of the security challenges should be supported more by the Federal Government to secure the country.

“The Forum reviewed the economic situation in the country and noted the recent increase in crude oil prices. It urged the Federal Government to use this opportunity to further diversify the economy and provide the enabling environment for Nigerians to thrive in all sectors.”

On rumours that some governors were set to dump the PDP for other parties, particularly the APC, the statement noted that nothing of such is true, describing the rumours of defection as the handiwork of political mischief-makers.

The governors in attendance included Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Godwin Obaseki of Edo.

Others are Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ben Ayade Cross River, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia.

The meeting also had in attendance, former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim as well as former Gombe Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo and ex Katsina Governor, Ibrahim Shema.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday expressed commitment to take over power from the All Progressives Congress administration in 2023.

The party stated this in a statement released by the party’s Board of Trustees after their emergency meeting on Thursday.

The Secretary, Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, in a statement noted that the crisis affecting the party would soon be resolved.
