The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has given bandits in the state two months ultimatum to repent and surrender their weapons or face serious consequences from the security personnel.

Matawalle while speaking with newsmen in Gusau House on Tuesday said the state government would face any bandit that refused to surrender within the time frame.

He further stated that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government would soon deploy additional 6,000 soldiers to help the state government to fight the recalcitrant bandits.

He said, “I have given you up to two months to surrender your weapons and also repent and any bandit that refused to accept the peace process would be fought by the government.”

The Zamfara State Governor also charged local government leaders and traditional rulers to monitor their areas and report to the government if there was an attack so that the government could take action.

In another development, troops of the Special Forces Brigade on Monday clashed with members of the dreaded Boko Haram in a gun battle at Chikingudu, a community in the Marte Local Government Area of the state.

According to a military signal seen by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, no fewer than 25 suspected terrorists and two soldiers died, while seven soldiers also sustained injuries.
