A barrage of reactions has followed a request by a wounded Nigerian who suffered a spinal cord injury in the fight against insurgents.

A Nigerian blog, GidiTraffic quoted the soldier, Mohammed to have appealed with concerned Nigerians to come to his aide, saying that he has no one to help him and he does not want to lose his dear life.

“I’m now calling on all Nigerians to come to help me as I have no one to assist me. Please, I don’t want my life to end like this,” the soldier sitting on a wheelchair was quoted saying.

Reacting to the request by the wounded soldier, some netizens who have no pity for the situation asked him to call those who send them to the war front.

“He should call those who always send them errands for the assistant, why are u seeking help from people ur government sent you to work against,” said Pappy [@Pappyjames9] on Twitter.

Another netizen, [@Bellowalterz] opined that Mohammed should first take off the army uniform before Nigerians can come to his aide.

He tweeted: “He should remove his uniform first… Knowing that the the Fg and Nigeria Army has failed him.

So that the civilians they harassed daily will help him. Despite calling us bloody civilians… civilians will still help now. Where is the FG and NA.”

However, one Dammy Ice! [@Iamdyce_] in his tweet said though the soldiers have severally harassed citizens and called them bloody civilians, they will still assist him.
His tweet reads: “you called us bloody civilians..you oppressed us with that uniform but we go still help you regardless.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has knocked popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi for alleging that non-Muslim soldiers were responsible for the attacks against bandits.
In a statement on Monday, signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the army warned the cleric to stop propagating falsehood, Naija News reports.
