CAN calls for end to Tiv/Jukun crisis

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Revd Dr Samson Ayokunle has lashed out at the federal government for its inability to finish the 200-kilometre Abuja-Lokoja highway in 15 years.

The CAN president lamented that the road has been under construction for the past 15 years and still has no specific completion date.

He described the situation as a shame on the entire nation and urged the government to urgently fix the road.

Ayokunle made his views known on Monday in Kogi during the official inauguration of the Government House Chapel for Christian worshippers built by the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello.

“Lokoja-Abuja highway is a shame of the country. Do something and remove this shame; 15 years constructing a 200kms road is a shame,” Ayokunle said.

Speaking during the commissioning, Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello who was represented by his deputy, Chief Edward Onoja expressed appreciation to God for the successful completion of the project.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Government has secured the release of ten kidnapped victims who have been in captivity for over three months and two weeks.

The state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, made this known on Monday during a press conference in Gusau, the state capital.

Dauran said the victims were abducted in the Gwaram community of Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner noted that the victims were rescued without ransom through the peace initiative of his administration.

Dauran said among them are three men, including the father of one of the abducted Jangebe School Girls, four women, and three children.

He explained that the state government will continue with the peace dialogue, noting it is paving way for lasting peace in the state.
