A man who admitted to killing his biological father for allegedly responsible for the death of his (the accused) children, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Edidiong Ototi was said to have murdered his dad on November 18, 2018, after accusing him of being a wizard, insisting that he was responsible for the untimely death of his two kids.

Delivering judgement on the case yesterday, an Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state sentenced 31-year-old Ototi to death by handing.

Confessing to the crime, Ototi who hails from Ikot-Akwa in the Obot Akara LGA said he killed his father, Mr Pius Ototi and buried his remain in the toilet at their house.

Justice Augustine Odokwo of the high court found the accused guilty of murder, a crime punishable by death under Section 326 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2000. The judge said the prosecution team from the state Ministry of Justice had proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Odokwo added that the culprit had no right whatsoever under the law to take the life of his 60-year-old father. The convict had before his sentence turned to a pastor in the courtroom, quoting Bible portions and begging the judge to forgive him and temper justice with mercy.

In another news, Naija News reports that gunmen on Monday abducted 10 passengers from a commercial vehicle along Takum-Wukari road, Taraba State.
A relative of one of the abducted travellers, Maiwada Takum, while speaking with DailyTrust noted that the kidnappers abducted seven people.
