The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Monday disclosed that he is aware of all developments concerning the arrest of suspected Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili.

Makinde also noted in a statement on Twitter where he reacted to the development that the interest of the people of Oyo will be protected in the matter.

The Governor who added that he is aware of steps already taken by the police on the matter, appealed to the people of Oyo to remain peaceful and go about their legitimate businesses.

He wrote: “We are aware of the events regarding Iskilu Wakili at Kajola community in Ibarapa North LGA, and the Nigeria police’s handling of the matter. I want to assure you that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the interests of the good people of Oyo State are protected.”

“I, therefore, urge all law-abiding citizens of the state to stay calm and go about their legitimate businesses. And to call 615 toll-free to report any security breaches in Oyo State.”

Naija News recalls Wakili was arrested on Sunday morning by a joint team of Ibarapa security operatives, including Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Vigilante, and other groups.

Wakili who is notorious for killing and kidnapping several people in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Oyo State was arrested after several attempts resulting in a gun battle.

Recall that Wakili’s second in command Isiaka Mohammed was recently arrested alongside four others.

Confirming Wakili’s arrest, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, said the Fulani warlord was arrested around 7 am on Sunday.

Adams stated that the herdsman had been handed over to the Divisional Police Office in Igbo Ora, Oyo State.

However, shortly after his arrest, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed the detention of some members of the Odua Peoples Congress who arrested the notorious Fulani warlord.

The development was confirmed in a statement released by the command on Sunday.

The statement titled, ‘Oyo police assures of diligent prosecution of suspected criminals’, was signed by the command spokesman, Fadeyi Olugbenga.

The police in its statement noted that three OPC members were detained for suspected murder and arson.

It was claimed that one person was killed while the OPC members were attempting to arrest Wakili, adding that the warlord’s house was also set ablaze.

Wakili himself has been moved to the hospital for treatment by the police over claims that he needs medical attention.
