Troops Neutralizes Scores Of Bandits In Zamfara Communities

Nigerian soldiers have successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists, killing two insurgents in a mid-week gunfight in Alagano village, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state.

This was revealed in an internal army memo seen by PeoplesGazette on Saturday.

According to the army communication, the terrorists who came in four gun trucks and armed with other sophisticated military hardware were swiftly engaged by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Tura Takaibango.

“After about 25 minutes of fighting, Boko Haram terrorists wandered in disarray, abandoning two of their corpses with two AK 47 rifles with registration numbers 56-5220254 and 49020839,” the army correspondence said.

No soldier was killed but three army personnel sustained minor injuries after the clash.

“Soldiers were administered first-aid,” the memo said. “General situation is calm but unpredictable… Troops’ morale and fighting spirit remain satisfactory,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has denied claims that four soldiers were killed on Thursday when bandits attacked a military base in Katsina State.

The Army in an official statement released on Saturday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima confirmed the clash between bandits and soldiers in Katsina on Thursday, but denied the killing of four soldiers during the clash.

Making reference to the earlier report by Daily Trust on the incident, the Army spokesperson denied the killing of four soldiers.

He explained that on sighting the troops, the bandits opened fire while attempting to escape but the troops during the encounter, killed four of the armed bandits, wounded many, and recovered weapons as well as other items from them including a motorcycle.

Yerima also regrettably confirmed that one soldier was killed during the clash.
