The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has launched a manhunt on unidentified gunmen that attacked citizens along Ibokun/Osogbo Road in the state.

Naija News had reported earlier that unknown gunmen killed one passenger and abducted many travellers along Osogbo/Ibokun road in Osun State on Tuesday night. Reports had it that the incident occurred around 7:30 pm after Aje Bamidele village in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

An eyewitness who spoke with The Nation said the gunmen attacked the passengers and shot dead a man, while an unspecified number of passengers were also abducted. He said: “We heard several gunshots and we saw that vehicles plying the road are making U-turn.

“I got to know that they killed one traveller while they abducted others.”

Subsequent reports revealed that the driver of the vehicle was shot dead while attempting to manoeuvre and escape the blockade, while two other female passengers who were later rescued by the police sustained bullet wounds.

Acting on the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, led the combined team of Police officers, vigilante and local hunters to comb bushes to ensure the arrest of the criminals.

Olokode in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola said the force is in total war with the perpetrators of the evil act, warning them that the state is not a safe haven for criminals.

The police boss insists on his resolve to checkmate all forms of criminal activities in the state.

“Criminals are warned to have a rethink as the Command has declared total war on unscrupulous elements,” he said.

Olokode enjoined members of the public to support, co-operate and collaborate with the Police in fighting crime.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen on Wednesday, March 3 shot dead two police officers in Cross River State, Naija News reports.
