Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has revealed that the freed students of the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe have been scheduled to visit the hospital for medical checkups.

Matawale, who made this known while speaking to newsmen at the State Government House in the capital city, Gusau, on Tuesday, noted that the students will be reunited with their families after the medical tests.

The governor directed that the freed schoolgirls be ushered into different coaster buses and taken to the hospital after they had breakfast.

Matawalle, however, put the number of girls recovered at 279, leaving about 31 still unaccounted for, as seven of the girls had earlier escaped their captors.

The governor said the 279 were released with the help of repentant bandits without any ransom paid.

Their abduction is the latest in a series of increasing abductions witnessed in the country within the last three months.
