Zamfara Govt Keeps Mum On Release Of Kidnapped Jangebe Schoolgirls

The Zamfara State Government has not reacted to the reported release of kidnapped schoolgirls of the Government Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered on Sunday that the students have regained their freedom, the state government and other officials are, however, yet to confirm this or provide any details.

Naija News had reported that the students, who were captured in the early hours of Friday, February, 26, were freed on Sunday morning.

This news platform learned that the students are now in the palace of the Emir of Anka for onward transportation to Gusau, the state capital.

It was gathered that the schoolgirls were kept in a forest between Dangulbi and Sabon Birnin Banaga in the Maru Local Government Area of the state.

However, it is unclear if a ransom was paid to secure the release of the schoolgirls from their abductors.

As of Friday evening, seven out of the 317 abducted female students were said to have escaped.

A source who spoke with Channels Television from Jangebe town via a phone call confirmed that the seven girls returned home on their own as they claimed they maneuvered their way back from the bandits while trekking along the forest.

The girls were abducted from their boarding school in the early hours of Friday.
