A fire outbreak has happened in the Popular Oregbeni market in Ramat Park, Benin City, Edo State, Naija News reports.

Eyewitnesses said a huge part of the market behind the Nigeria Immigration Service Office caught fire on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

As of the time filing this report, the cause of the massive fire and the extent of damage it has caused in terms of lives and properties is unknown.

Oregbeni is a market where foodstuffs brought from outside the South-South State, as well as locally grown food items, are sold at quite affordable rates in this particular market.

Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State has dismissed reports that the state paid a ransom for the release of students abducted from Government Science College, Kagara.

Naija News had earlier reported that the victims were released on Saturday to a team of police and other security agents around 7 am on Saturday.

The victims who were received by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on Saturday recounted their harrowing experience in the hands of their abductors.

Speaking to newsmen after meeting with the abductees, Governor Bello said “a lot of logistics” were involved in ensuring the safe release and movement of the abductees from the kidnappers’ den to the state capital.

He stated that security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilantes were involved in ensuring the safe release of the victims.

“There was no ransom. We, however, incurred a lot of logistics because we had to involve so many groups — even the logistics — to bring them, and to settle the stakeholders — I’m referring to security agencies, our local vigilantes, our traditional rulers and other stakeholders,” he said.
