Zamfara State Government, on Saturday, disclosed that it is expecting good news on the abducted schoolgirls in Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The state government, however, did not disclose if the state and the abductors of the schoolgirls had reached an agreement concerning the expected release of the schoolgirls.

Recall that a source which spoke with Punch, on Saturday disclosed that negotiations are ongoing with the bandits and it has reached a very advanced stage, saying “they may be in Gusau (Zamfara State capital) today.”

The source further stated that the abducted schoolgirls were kept in a forest between Dangulbi and Sabon Birnin Banaga in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“As I am speaking to you now (Saturday), vehicles have been arranged for their evacuation to Gusau town, the state capital,” the source said.

But the Commissioner for Information in the state, Suleman Anka, while speaking on the development noted that the state government is hoping to welcome the schoolgirls soon.

He said, “We are hoping that they (the schoolgirls) would be back soon. We have that hope and belief. We are expecting good news concerning them soon. That is all I can tell you.”
