1. Soldiers, DSS, Policemen Attempt To Arrest Sunday Igboho

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has said that a joint team of soldiers, Department of State Services, and policemen attempted to arrest popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho on Friday afternoon.

In a series of tweets via his Twitter handle on Friday, Fani-Kayode said that Igboho was on his way to see Afenifere chieftain, Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos when the joint team, numbering about 40 ambushed him and wanted to arrest him on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to Fani-Kayode, Igboho’s supporters resisted his arrest as commotion ensued between his supporters and the joint team which sought to arrest him by force.

2. Gunmen Storm Zamfara School, Abduct Female Students

Some students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State have been abducted by gunmen.

It was gathered that the abduction of the schoolgirls happened in the early hours of Friday.

A resident of Kawaye village identified as Sadi Kawaye disclosed that his daughters, Mansura and Sakina were among those abducted.

He said, “I’m on my to Jangebe now to see the situation myself. I was told they invaded the school around 1 am.”

3. Osinbajo Bombs CBN, Says Cryptocurrency Should Be Regulated, Not Banned (Video)

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has argued that the recent ban on cryptocurrencies in Nigeria by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should be reviewed.

The Vice President on Friday while speaking at the Bankers Committee Vanguard said while he understands the fears of the CBN and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on cryptocurrencies in Nigeria, their stands should be a subject of further reviews.

It will be recalled as previously reported by Naija News that the CBN recently ordered banks in the country to shut down the accounts of cryptocurrency traders.

4. Seven Of 317 Female Students Abducted In Zamfara Escape Abductors

Seven schoolgirls out of the 317 students kidnapped on Friday at Jangebe Government Girls Secondary School have escaped from their abductors.

A source who spoke with Channels TV disclosed that the girls returned home on their own as they claimed they manoeuvred their way back from the bandits while trekking along the forest.

The source said the escaped students said more are expected back.

5. Boko Haram: ‘Critically Ill’ Shekau Mocks Army In New Video, Says He Has No Farm

The leader of the Jama’atu Ahlussunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad faction of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, in fresh audio released on Thursday mocked troops of the Nigerian Army.

In a video in which only a voice believed to be his could be heard with his pictures and scenes from the North, Shekau who spoke in Hausa claimed responsibility for the bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday.

Shekau said an infiltration team carried out the attacking, stressing that the Nigerian military has failed to put his group in check.

He also dissociated himself from a farm reportedly belonging to him that was recently burnt by the Nigerian military.

6. Gumi Reveals Those Responsible For Zamfara Schoolgirls Abduction

Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has revealed that another faction of bandits in Zamfara State is responsible for the abduction of some students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state.

Naija News had earlier reported that gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the school in the early hours of Friday and abducted an unconfirmed number of schoolgirls.

The sad incident was confirmed by the Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran while addressing newsmen hours after the kidnap.

This development comes a week after 27 schoolchildren were abducted from Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.

7. Bandits Sponsored By Those Who Wanted Jonathan Out – Mailafia

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia, on Thursday said bandits terrorising Nigeria were sponsored by those who wanted former President, Goodluck Jonathan, out of power.

The Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2019 general elections made this claim during an interview with Punch on Thursday.

He said, “During the 2015 elections they brought in thousands of foreigners into this country, armed them because it was a case of if Goodluck Jonathan doesn’t surrender, there will be war. They were ready for civil war; they were not ready for peace.”

“Of course, Jonathan handed over to them and then they turned their backs on the hoodlums and the hoodlums said ‘look, you brought us here and we are still here’.”

8. Why Security Agencies Haven’t Deployed Force Against Bandits – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday disclosed why security forces haven’t deployed force against bandits in the country.

Buhari noted that security agencies have not moved against bandits because of the fear of “heavy casualties of innocent villagers and hostages” that may be suffered in such operations.

The spokesperson to the President, Garba Shehu, on Friday quoted his principal saying, “We have the capacity to deploy massive force against the bandits in the villages where they operate, but our limitation is the fear of heavy casualties of innocent villagers and hostages who might be used as human shields by the bandits.”

9. DSS Speaks On Attempt To Arrest Sunday Igboho

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied reports that it was part of a joint team that attempted to arrest popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho on Friday.

As previously reported by Naija News, Igboho was on his way to see Afenifere chieftain, Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos on Friday when security operatives, numbering about 40 ambushed him and wanted to arrest him on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, the DSS described the reports as fake news.

The statement reads: “The Department of State Services wishes to refute the news that it attempted to arrest one Sunday Igboho, today, at Ibadan, Oyo State.

“The said news is misinforming and should be taken as fake and therefore be disregarded.”

10. Umahi ‘Descend Heavily’ On Aides For Exposing ‘Classified’ Documents To Online Newspaper

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has allegedly stopped the running costs and allowances for all his aides, accusing them of working with opposition media to bring down his administration.

It was gathered that the governor is annoyed with his appointees for allegedly providing ‘classified’ bank documents to Peoples Gazette – an online newspaper.

Aides told PeoplesGazette that Umahi has become “dangerously erratic” since the exposure on how he wired public funds from state accounts into his own firm.

“He stopped our running expenses two weeks ago because he became angry that we all betrayed him by sending bank documents to the media,” one of Mr. Umahi’s affected advisers said.
