Police Arrest 11 Suspects In Osun Cult Clash

No fewer than eleven persons have been arrested in Osogbo, Osun State capital over a clash between two groups of hooligans suspected to be cultists.

The State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest of the suspects to newsmen on Wednesday, February 24, Naija News reports.

Narrating the incident to reporters at the Ilesha Garage area in Osogbo earlier, a man who gave his name as Olapade revealed that the two rival groups fought on Tuesday in the area over supremacy. Naija News learnt that the clash caused great fear as residents and traders at Oke Ayepe, Oja Oba and Station Road flee their businesses and homes.

Reports had it that the clash lasted for hours till Wednesday morning when security operatives restore calmness by dispersing the hoodlums.

Speaking on the event, the state police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the police arrested five suspects on Tuesday, while others were arrested the following day.

She said: “Another six were arrested today (Wednesday). Those we arrested were caught with weapons.

“The situation is under control. Men have been deployed and we have also intensified monitoring of flashpoints.”

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen have reportedly killed four policemen at Nkpologwu, in Aguata local government area of Anambra State and took their rifles away.

Naija News gathered that the police officers were killed at a checkpoint in the community and their patrol vehicle was set ablaze.
