Tragic: Gunmen Kill Four Policemen In Calabar

Reports reaching Naija News have it that four policemen have been gunned down by gunmen at a checkpoint in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

It was gathered incident reportedly happened in the wee hours of Thursday at Ayanmbat community near Idundu in the Aka Efa area of the state.

An eyewitness said the gunmen swooped on the unsuspecting policemen and gunned them down in cold blood while resting at the location.

When reporters visited the scene in the morning, six bodies, including those of civilians, were seen and bloodstains were all over the place.

Confirming the sad incident, the state Police Commissioner, Sikiru Akande, said he was on his way to the scene of the killings.

Meanwhile,  a former Chief of Naval Administration Rear Admiral, Joe Aikhomu (rtd) has died on Thursday morning of suspected COVID-19 complications.

Naija News understands the former Naval chief passed away at the age of 65.

The late Aikhomu who until his death was the chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions (OMS) is the younger brother of former Military Vice President, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu (rtd).

He was also a member of the investigative panel on arms procurement between 2007 and 2015 which was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari during his first tenure.

His death is reported to have caused a big blow to the navy community who regard him as a fine officer with unparalleled information on maritime operations and logistics in the Gulf of Guinea.
