2023: Shehu Sani Issues Warning, Reveals What Happens When Election Can't Hold Due To Insecurity

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has appealed to Niger Delta militants threatening to bomb Lagos and Abuja not to add to the woes of Nigeria.

The former lawmaker who is also a public commentator made the appeal in a post on his Twitter handle on Wednesday morning.

It will be recalled as previously reported by Naija News that a Niger Delta militant group identified as the Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters (SELF), on Tuesday threatened to attack Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory.

The militants who issued the threat in a video noted that it would attack infrastructure in Abuja and the commercial hub in Lagos.

The video that was shared by the news platform showed the militants dancing around guns, RPGs, HMGs, and GPMGs.

‘SELF’ condemned the Federal Government for the amnesty programme, adding that FG has marginalised the South-South region.

The militants lamented that the region which produces oil has no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads.

They further stated that the government places politics above the people.

The militants demanded resource control for the South-South, the same way the federal government allowed Zamfara to control gold mining.

However, Sani has now appealed to them to sheath their swords. He wrote: “An appeal to the Niger Delta militants not to add to our woes.”

Meanwhile, a former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan, has called on the federal government to grant amnesty to people in Nigerian prisons and not just to bandits.

Speaking Channels Television on Wednesday, the clergyman warned the government to make sure bandits have truly repented before giving them amnesty.

He said though he believes criminals should be forgiven when they repent, there is a problem of figuring out if they have truly repented or not.
