Hoodlums suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have reportedly attacked and burnt the World Bank Housing Estate Police Station, Abayi in Aba, Abia State.

Naija News reports that this is coming barely a few weeks after the attack and burning of Omoba Police Station in Isiala-Ngwa South LGA of Abia State.

It was gathered that the hoodlums killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a police Corporal during the attack on Tuesday.

The attack reportedly took place at 2:30 am on Tuesday when the hoodlums took the police unaware, attacked the station and made away with arms.

A police source told Daily Trust that the situation has created more tension in the city, as police officers are now working in fear.

This online newspaper reports that Police Stations in the south-east have repeatedly come under attack by hoodlums.

Recall that IPOB members had allegedly attacked and burnt down the Onicha Divisional Police Headquarters in Isu community, Ebonyi State.

Naija News reports that the IPOB members attacked the police station around 3:25pm on Thursday burning down the buildings in the station and four patrol vans.

Confirming the attack in a statement, Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, said one Police officer sustained machete cut injuries from the attack.

She said: “Today being 4/02/2021 at about 0325hrs hoodlums suspected to be members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked Onicha Divisional Headquarters, Isu in Onicha L.G.A of Ebonyi State, set ablaze the left-wing of the Division and four (4) patrol vehicles”.

“This followed threats by the Proscribed Group who are alleging that the Police were protecting the Fulani Herdsmen who they accused of being responsible for the killing of one of their members *Nwite Njoku ‘m’”.

“One Policeman sustained machete cuts injuries during the attack and he is responding to treatment in the hospital”.
