Three adults have been reportedly arrested for allegedly beating up a traditional ruler in Osun State.

Naija News learnt that one Wasiu Tijani and his accomplices invaded the palace of the Alabudo of Abudo, Oba Morufu Olawale and assaulted him to their satisfaction.

The incident which happened in the Egbedore Local Government Area had the suspects arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for contravening sections 249 (D) and 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34 Vol II. Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Speaking on the condemnable act, the police prosecutor, Kayode Asanbe said the defendants were arraigned on two counts of breach of peace and assault. Asanbe revealed that Tijani (35) and his friends; Tairu Akangbe and 30-year-old Samad Mutairu stormed the palace of the Alabudo of Abudo and beat him up for no cause.

The defendants were also accused of beating up labourers working at the palace of the Alabudo.

Asanbe explained that the incident occurred on February 20, 2021, when the defendants stormed Abudo, near Awo, and went to the palace of the monarch and beat him up. According to the police prosecutor, the defendants acted like hoodlums and conducted themselves in a manner that caused a breach of peace in the area.

He added that the men used cutlass to slap the monarch and beat up labourers working in the palace. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

On his part, the counsel for the defendants, Mr S. Okgi, prayed the court to admit them to bail, but the prosecutor opposed the application.

In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Isola Omisade, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Ilesa Custodial Centre and adjourned ruling on the bail application till Thursday, February 25, 2021.
