2023: Jega Disagrees With IBB Over Age Limit For President

A former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has warned Nigerians against voting for both the PDP and APC in 2023.

According to the former INEC boss, Nigerians should cast their votes for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) which he said is a better alternative to the two leading parties.

Jega, a national leader of the PRP spoke on Monday during a stakeholders’ interactive session of the party in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

He said the PRP will stand against godfatherism and present a formidable platform for politicians to unseat both the APC and PDP.

To this end, he disclosed that the PRP has commenced nationwide mobilization and he is optimistic that the party will provide a better alternative for Nigerians.

“We are re-engineering the party by bringing all stakeholders on board, hence the organisation of this interactive session for the party’s stakeholders in Kebbi State.

“We are working toward building a virile alternative political platform ahead of 2023 against the dominant two political parties in the country,” he said.

Jega however said it is too early for him to speak about individual ambition for 2023 as the focus, for now, is to build a formidable party.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise by three weeks.

A statement by the party’s National Secretary, Senator John J. Akpanudoedehe, said the extension was due to a shortage of materials as a result of the massive turnout of intending members.

Akpanudoedehe said the exercise has been extended to Wednesday 31st March 2021.

He, however, appreciated Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, the national registration, revalidation committee led by Gov Sani Bello of Niger state, and other stakeholders in making sure the exercise was a success.
