The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has described as bizarre, the recent clash between former Governor Rochas Okorocha and incumbent Hope Uzodinma and their supporters.

The party also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of turning the state into a war zone.

It will be recalled as earlier recalled by Naija News that former Imo State Governor and current Imo West Senator, Rochas Okorocha was arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police.

The ex-Governor was arrested on Sunday for forcefully unsealing the Royal Palm Estate sealed by the Imo State government under the leadership of current Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Okorocha was said to have broken the chain and seal of the estate to recover the property seized by the state government from his wife, Nkechi.

Explaining why Okorocha was arrested, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, while speaking with newsmen in Owerri, the state capital, the former Governor was arrested for violently breaking into the government-sealed Royal palm spring estate along Akachi road in Owerri.

Reacting to the developments in a statement on Monday, the Imo PDP spokesperson, Ogubundu Nwadike said what is happening between the two leaders who are both from APC is disgusting.

Nwadike added that the incident has heightened tension in the state which was brought about by the recent military invasion of Orlu based on the orders of Governor Uzodinma.

He, therefore, called on the APC to call its people to order and stop disturbing the peace of the people of Imo State.

The statement reads: “The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State strongly condemns the horrific violent and bloody gun battle which recently occurred in the state between supporters of Senator Rochas Okorocha and supporters of Governor Hope Uzodimma, where they were engaged in a bizarre indiscriminate shooting over the sealing by the Government, of Royal Spring Palm Estate Hotel, in the Akachi area of Owerri, the state capital,” the statement reads.

“It is highly disgusting that the present APC Government in the state has turned Imo into a terror zone and theatre of war and conflict.

“In recent times, Imolites have had the most tragic and excruciating experience ranging from the recent military invasion of parts of Orlu and Orsu Local Government Areas, which caused insecurity and other forms of gruesome attacks, leading to the breakdown of peace and order, and loss of lives and properties.

“The recent violence perpetrated by supporters of Senator Rochas Okorocha and Governor Hope Uzodimma has stirred up tension and apprehension in the state, thereby toppling the atmosphere of saturated peace and tranquility.

“It is, indeed, highly despicable that under the present administration, Imo State, which used to be the centre and cynosure of public peace and orderliness, has turned into a jungle of terror where hooliganism, rascality, thuggery, and abuse of the dignity of human peace have become the order of the day.

“The APC Government in the state has created a Frankenstein monster that haunts the relative peace and social order in the state, Imolites are now living under fear and apprehension and can no more sleep with their two eyes closed.

“It is most disheartening that our dear state has become a laughing stock and object of mockery and caricature, due to the present psychopathic leadership, which is creating unnecessary tension and also mortgaging the peace of the state.”

Meanwhile, a Magistrate Court in Owerri, Imo State on Monday granted 14 aides of the former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okrocha, N5 million each totaling N70 million.

This was after a mild drama played out inside the court, as one of the 14 suspects, Darlington Ibekwe, slumped.

Ibekwe and 13 other loyalists of Senator Okorocha were arraigned for breaking into the sealed Royal Spring Palm Hotel and Apartments owned by Okorocha’s wife

The suspects were accused of conspiring among themselves to disobey a lawful order issued by the state by removing the seal of the state government and entering into the sealed property.
