Late COAS Attahiru’s Death Suspicious – Ohanaeze

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Ibrahim Attahiru on Saturday arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State after Boko Haram attack on two communities.

The Army chief is expected to meet with the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole and other unit commanders of the counter-insurgency offensive in Borno.

Recall that residents fleed after insurgents reportedly captured two communities after some hours of a gun duel with the Nigerian Army.

Boko Haram reportedly raided Borno central towns of Marte and Dikwa, the same night.

Sources said the insurgents pushed back military forces and took over Marte.

Speaking to DailyTrust, a witness said: “They came into Dikwa around 6:05 pm, shooting sporadically.”

“They took soldiers by surprise. Thousands of our people are taking refugee in the bush as we speak. I just spoke with an International Non-Governmental Organisation worker who told me that the sounds are deafening.”

A security source confirmed attacked on Dikwa but said the troops are on top of the situation.

“Our air support are currently bombarding the outlaw group, troops are on top of the situation. There is no cause for alarms” the source said.
