Buhari Appoints New Civil Defence, Correctional Service (Prison) Bosses

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

He is Ahmed Abubakar Audi and he replaces the former Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu.

Buhari also appointed Haliru Nababa as the new boss of the Nigeria Correctional Service (Prison), Naija News reports.

The appointments were confirmed in a statement on Thursday afternoon by the Director (Press & Public Relations) of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga.

The new appointees have been congratulated by the Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who called on them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the appointment.

The statement said, “Ahmed Audi, emerged the top best candidate out of those that went through the transparent selection process initiated by the @MinOfInteriorNG through the Board to ensure that the most suitable among the top-ranking officers in the service was appointed to replace the out-going CG

“Furthermore, President Muhammadu Buhari has also nominated Haliru Nababa mni, as the new Controller-General of the @CorrectionsNg, subject to the confirmation of the Senate in line with the provision of the new Act establishing the Nigerian Correctional Service 2019.

“The Minister of Interior and Chairman, Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIB), Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola who congratulated the new appointees, called on them to ensure full implementation of the mandate of their services as well as to ensure synergy with other security agencies in the country with the view to providing efficient internal security services and citizenship integrity for Nigerians and foreigners alike in line with the policy thrust of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday denied knowledge of plans by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to sell 36 Federal Government properties.

Reports had emerged on Thursday that the Buhari government had submitted a proposal to sell or concession 36 of its properties between January 2021 and November 2022 to the National Assembly.

But speaking to The Punch, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation, Theodore Orji, denied knowledge of such document.

According to the former governor of Abia State, his panel was unaware of such a request.
